PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Every year, Close Up welcomes nearly 2,000 educators from across the country to Washington, DC on our various adult-oriented programs designed to offer professional development opportunities to middle and high school teachers. Each day on program, educators, as well as any accompanying adults, are offered a variety of different options, including tours, workshops, and seminars in and around Washington that are led by our knowledgeable Teacher Program Specialists. The insights provided throughout the week will enhance teachers’ instructional strategies and allow them to return home with new ideas to help students better understand their roles as active citizens.

Our unique program allows enrolled adults to experience in-town and out-of-town options that reflect the nation’s history and the capital city’s development of democracy. Whether you have been to Washington, DC many times before, or this is your first time to our nation’s capital, there is something for you to make your time on program inspiring and informative. Adult participants will have opportunities to interact and network with civic education professionals and also learn and discuss best practices with fellow teachers from all 50 states and every U.S. territory. Teachers receive a variety of educational resources to utilize in their classrooms to prepare students for the responsibilities of democratic citizenship. Teachers will experience our Close Up In Class curriculum in-depth and leave with the tools to engage students about current public policy issues.

Our Teacher Program runs parallel to our student programs for high school and middle school students. Close Up welcomes all individual educators, adults, and parents to enroll in our Teacher Program and gain professional development, educational resources, and unique insights into the history of our country. Any participant can earn Graduate Credit or Continuing Education Units by joining us on our Teacher Program. Our Teacher Program changes every year, so don’t miss out on this opportunity to join us on program during this school year - we can’t wait to see you on program!
